How to play FC King of the Hill: A new variation on global imperialism

Updated: Feb 15

Global imperialism is one of the most popular and interesting types of simulated sports tournaments. I tried to do an imperialism series with all the teams in FC24, and it was a really fun experience. However, there is one major con of global imperialism: It takes too much time. For each turn, you have to simulate the match/conduct the upgrades, remove a team from the 700-strong item wheel, record the goalscorers (if you are REALLY hardcore like me), and EDIT THE MAP. This part takes the most time. Adding all these components of a turn, it will take 10-15 minutes just to conduct a single turn. And a full series would very likely take about 900-1000 turns. So here I will teach you another way to play global imperialism, but faster, with more unique matchups, and many more storyline twists. This is FC King of the Hill.

Basic Rules

In FC King of the Hill, every team from that specific year of FC will participate. (Of Course, you can choose to do fewer teams.) For each turn, a 'home' team will be drawn from the teams' wheel, Then, you go to the Action wheel to determine what the contents of the turn will be. It could be an upgrade, simulated match, multi-legged match, or a mini-tournament, etc. (Note that all matches are simulated on Matchsimulator.com). The winner of a match will get to steal a player from the losing team by their own choice, as well as all the players the losing team had previously acquired, except for the special reward wedge. I will describe the wedges in detail below. The process continues until one team is left, and that team is the King of the World.

Action Wheel

The action wheel determines what will happen in a turn. Here are the wedges:

League match (4 Wedges)

This is a simple league match in which the teams play 90 minutes. The winner survivesl. If the match ends in a draw, a return leg will be played (Just click the 'play return' on the match menu) and that match will be a cup match. Simple enough right?

Cup Match (4 Wedges)

A one-off cup game in which the teams play with extra time and penalties. The winner survives. Loser... RIP. Even simpler.

Double Match (2 Wedges)

Another fairly simple match type. Two teams play a home-and-away two-leg tie, and the winner survives. Easy does it.

Penalty Shootout (2 Wedges)

The teams will play a penalty shootout with the first team drawn first to kick. Out of 11 choices in a random generator, 7 'goal', 3 'saved', and 1 'missed'. Whoever scored the most goals in 5 kicks each wins and spins the reward wheel.

Free Upgrade (2 Wedges)

If a team spins this wedge, the rewards wheel will be skipped and the highest-rated player from that team (or one of the highest-rated by choice) gets a +2 Rating Upgrade. Details on how to upgrade/transfer in Match Simulator will be shown later.

Four Leg Match (1 Wedge)

If this option is spun, the teams will play a mammoth, four-leg match. You can do this by playing two double matches and adding the aggregate scores together. (only score until 90 minutes count for 2nd and 4th legs) If the score is tied, play a penalty shootout as described above.

Three-team rumble (2 Wedges)

Now we get to the turns with multiple teams involved. After this option is spun, spin for another team, then play the semifinal (cup match) with the second team (home) and third team (away). Then conduct the transfers for the winner of this match. After that, the final will be played with the first team (home) and the winner of the semifinal. The winner of this match is the winner of the three-team rumble.

Four-team tournament (2 Wedges)

The four-team tournament has a very similar format to the three-team rumble. For a four-team tournament, you spin for two extra teams. Play the matches (cup match) as follows: Team 1 (home) v Team 3, and Team 2 (home) v Team 4. Conduct the transfers for the winning teams. Then, play the final with the winner of the first match as the home team, and the second match as the away team. The winner of this match is the winner of the four-team tournament.

SPECIAL REWARD (1 Wedge)

This is the wedge that can cause a massive twist in the game. The teams will play one cup game, and the winner gets to conduct transfers as usual. However, if this wedge was spun, then we would spin the 'Special Reward' Wheel with some huge rewards.

Free Transfer- If a team spins this reward, they get to transfer a player from any team into their own team, regardless of whether the player's team has been eliminated or not.

99 Rated Player- One player from the winning team gets a straight upgrade to 99-rated.

Take Three- The winning team gets to take not one, not two, but THREE players from the losing team.

Bonus Upgrades- All goalscorers from the winning team in the match get a +5 upgrade. If there is no goalscorer, one player of their choice gets a +5 upgrade. If a player gets multiple goals in the match upgrade the player by 5 times the number of goals he scored. (Note that extra upgrade points DON'T carry over here)

Squad Overhaul- The entire starting Xi of the winning team gets a +2 upgrade!

Tips & Suggestions

-Note that when a player gets upgraded to 99 and there are still upgrade points available from the turn, the upgrade gets carried on to another player of the same team until he gets to 99, and so forth.

-Suggestion: When a player scores a hat-trick(3 goals in one match), that player gets an automatic upgrade of +2 regardless of whether he won or not. (though it is VERY UNLIKELY that someone scores a hat trick and loses LOL)

-Another suggestion is that a player gets a +5 upgrade when he has scored 10 goals at any point in the game. (Though it may be hard to keep track of goals)

-ONLY PLAYERS FROM THE ORIGINAL SQUAD OF A TEAM ARE ELIGIBLE FOR UPGRADES!

How to transfer and upgrade players

To transfer and upgrade players in beta match simulator, you need create a customization pack. You need an account to do this. After you create a customization pack, you can edit players and conduct transfers. To upgrade a player go to 'edit players', search for the player to be upgraded, and update the overall rating. Then click 'randomize' so the stats align with the ratings too. To transfer players, go to 'club transfers', search for a player, and change his club to the club he is transferring to.
