This is part three of siuuuuu 100, 100 of the best moments of the 2023/23 world football season. Today we have some insane goalkeeper saves, as well as odd-defying moments and matches. We also have one of the longest penalty shootouts of all time. Let's get underway!
80: Angel Di Maria corner kick goal

Angel Di Maria, one of the most underrated footballers ever. He is absolutely class and can do insane things with the ball. This goal scored directly from a corner kick showcases his brilliant shooting ability. He's done it before twice with PSG, now he did it in the Champions League. World class.
79: Abdul Fatawu hat trick against Southampton
Abdul Fatawu is set to be Ghana's next generational superstar. He scored a hat trick in the 5-0 thrashing against Southampton, including a banger of a curler goal, where he burst past 3 defenders and shot the ball into the bottom left corner. After his third goal, he did the Asamoah Gyan dance to pay tribute to the Ghanaian legend. If Fatawu keeps playing like this, he'll be the next Gyan.
78: Jakob Glesnes own goal
For those who don't follow the MLS, Jakob Glesnes is one of the best and most consistent defenders in the league. He plays for Philadelphia Union, and he had drilled in some brilliant long range goals before. However, he scored a long range OWN GOAL in the Concacaf Champions League against Costa Rican side Deportivo Saprissa. From 40 yards off, Glesnes lobbed the ball into his own net, past goalkeeper Andre Blake, who could have done better. But still, one of the funniest own goals this season.
77: Santos relegation

Santos, one of the most successful and historic Brazilian clubs, has been relegated this season. Yes, the club that created Pele, Neymar, and so many others. They were shockingly relegated for the first time in 111 years. Riots ensued as what had never happened in the club's history, happened. They had a few familiar names in their squad as well. Venezuela national team captain Tomas Rincon, former Monaco player Jean Lucas, former Rangers legend Alfredo Morelos, and current Benfica striker Marcos Leonardo. What is happening in football?
76: Man U 3-2 Aston Villa
United 3-2 Villa this year was the exact same score as the game in 2008/09. This time, it was a brace from Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund's debut goal. Last time, it was a brace from Cristiano Ronaldo (siuuuuu) and THAT goal by Federico Macheda. And best of all, Jonny Evans played and celebrated in both these games. Now that's football heritage.
75: Pepe Reina penalty save

Remember Pepe Reina? The former Liverpool, Barcelona and Bayern goalkeeper is still playing in Europe's elite stages with Villarreal at the ripe old age of 41. He is still making those big saves, including a penalty save he made against Rennes. Villarreal were 1-0 down when Rennes were awarded a penalty. Martin Terrier took it, but he saw his shot palmed away from the veteran. The header rebound was wide. The old dog still got new tricks.
74: Nicolas Andrade 3 saves against Sampdoria
I don't think any of you have heard of Nicolas Andrade. He is a goalkeeper who plays for Pisa in the Serie B. In the season opener against Sampdoria, Andrade made three crazy saves. The first was a brilliant point-blank range save, the second one a last-second reaction save, and the third one a beautiful top-corner diving save. It's like doing a perfect rep in a goalkeeper training session. (Only goalkeepers will understand lol)
73: Marcin Bulka 2 penalty saves in one game
At this point, it's becoming a goalkeeper special. But imagine stopping two penalty kicks in one game. Polish goalkeeper Marcin Bulka emerged as one of the best young goalkeepers in the world this season. He stopped two penalty kicks from Folarin Balogun in a match between Nica and Monaco. He became the first goalkeeper to save 2 penalties in the same match in 13 years. Impressive.
72: FC Rouen 3-3 Toulouse (12-11 pen)
Yes, that scoreline is correct. In a Coupe de France game between FC Rouen and Toulouse, the final score was 3-3 and the game went to a penalty shootout. It was one of the longest penalty shootouts in football history, with 24 penalties taken. 26 if you count two penalties scored in regular time. When Gabriel Suazo of Toulouse converted his penalty, no one thought that everyone on the pitch would convert, even the two goalkeepers. It was Suazo's turn again, after 22 kicks. Suazo smacked his penalty off the post, then Abdeljalil Sahloune scored to sent third-tier FC Rouen through to the Round of 16. Absolute madness.
71: Federico Gatti own goal
LOL what an own goal. Video source: LED 10
Wojciech Szczesny became me when I lose a goal in Touch Football. Yes, that was an own goal, which makes it even funnier. This goal ensured that Sassoulo gained one of their seven league wins this season.
The series will continue from June 3rd to June 12th, and each article will contain 10 moments. Stay tuned for more of the greatest (and worst) moments of the 2023/24 world football season!
