siuuuuu 100: 100 of the best moments of the 2023/24 world football season (90-81)

This is part two of siuuuuu 100, 100 of the best moments of the 2023/23 world football season. Today we have some banger own goals and penalty misses, as well as odd-defying moments and matches. I bet you will snort your morning milk out of your nose after watching some of these bloopers we have today.

90: Mohammed Kudus bicycle kick and solo run goal

We have not one but TWO of Mohammed Kudus' iconic goals this season, both are certified bangers. First is the bicycle kick he scored against Man City on the final day to briefly give Arsenal fans hope. In a corner for West Ham, Kudus set himself up perfectly and slams the ball into the top of the net with a bicycle kick. His solo goal against Freiburg is perhaps even more stunning. Kudus receives the ball from his own half, and runs all the way to the box, dribbling past 3 defenders and slotting the ball calmly into the bottom corner. I tell you, this boy is class.

89: Yuya Osako penalty miss

OK, make sure you don't have anything in your mouth before you watch. This, right here, is one of the best (worst) penalty kicks of all time. And don't forget to watch the free kick too.

88: Almeria 3-3 Granada

Almeria 3-3 Granada was an absolutely insane game of LaLiga relegation teams. Almeria striker Luis Suarez (no, not THAT Luis Suarez) scored a hat trick inside the first half, within six minutes. Yes, six minutes. In the second half, Granada captain Antonio Puertas missed a penalty kick. Granada refused to back down. Granada won another penalty, this time current Bayern player Bryan Zaragoza converted it. They pulled another back from a brilliant bottom corner finish by right-back Ricard. Luis Suarez, who scored the hat trick for Almeria, was stretchered off due to an injury late on. Finally, Myrto Uzuni completed the comeback with an insane finish into the top corner. It was not over. In the 96th minute, Real Madrid loanee Arribas nearly won it for Almeria, but his curling shot hit the post. It was still not over. In the 101th minute, Granada rallied, and the ball fell to Man United loanee Alvaro Fernandez. He sliced the ball... onto the right post. 3-3, but it could have been way more. What a crazy game.

87: Vitesse Arnhem's relegation

Vitesse Arnhem's downfall has been incredible. Two years ago, this team beat Tottenham and reached the Conference League knockout rounds. Now, they are relegated to the second division. What's even crazier is that Vitesse was on -1 points after an 18-point deduction issued by KNVB, because of potential ties of the club's owners to Roman Abramovich. I don't think I've ever seen any team on -1 points in any competition.

86: Ante Budimir penalty miss

Ante Budimir is an extremely underrated baller. He netted 17 times in 33 games this season for Osasuna, and was fifth on the top goalscorers chart. However, he would most likely be remembered for his hilarious penalty against Valencia. When doing his run-up, Budimir hesitated on where to shoot and accidentally struck the ball softly, and Valencia goalkeeper Mamardashvili easily collected the ball. 99th minute and 1-0 down as well.

85: Getafe 0-2 Athletic Club (4.5 xg, 0 goals)

Ah yes, meme team of Getafe. This was the Mason Greenwood clownshow, the trouble-ridden forward had 9 shots, including 1 penalty, and 1.33 xg, but failed to score a single goal, along with the rest of his team. They had 6 big chances- and missed 6. Athletic even had two red cards. The saviour of the team was Unai Simon, who made 9 saves, including a penalty save from Greenwood, and stopped a total of 3.24 xg. One of the best goalkeeping performances ever.

84: Lille 3 penalties against Ki Klaksvik

How often do you see a team get awarded 3 penalties in a single game? And how often do you see a team from the Faroe Islands in Europe? How about both? Lille 3-0 KI Klaksvik is the answer. KI had a miraculous run to the Conference League, beating Hungarian champions Ferencvarosi and Swedish champions Hacken. They ultimately fell short of qualifying for the Champions League and Europa League. However, they got to play a top 5 league team in Lille. Lille was awarded 3 penalties, scored by Yusuf Yazici, Angel Gomes, and Edon Zhegrova respectively. Football can defy all the odds sometimes.

83: Luton 3-4 Arsenal

Last year's underdog Luton gave us a hell of a year in the Premier League this season, competing with some of the biggest teams in the league. Luton were able to dump three goals on Arsenal, which were from Gabriel Osho, Elijah Adebayo, and Ross Barkley. Arsenal also replied with three, from Martinelli, Gabriel Jesus, and Havertz. At the final minute of the game, Odegaard curled in a peach of a cross for Declan Rice to head in for 4-3. Pandemonium in the away end. Heartbreak for Luton.

82: Provedel header against Atletico Madrid

Playing as a goalkeeper, it has been one of my biggest dreams to score a last-minute equalizer. Lazio goalkeeper Ivan Provedel did that in a Champions League game against Atletico Madrid. Atleti took the lead via a long shot from youngster Pablo Barrios. Lazio struggled to get in the game, until the last minute. Luis Alberto curled in a delightful cross, and Provedel did what his outfield players can't do the whole game-score. A yellow bolt of lightning in the box, Provedel headed the ball past Jan Oblak to tie the game. See, goalkeepers don't just stop the shots. They can score the goals too.

81: Heuer Fernandes own goal

Watch and laugh. Video source: Bundesliga

...Or they can score own goals. Hamburg's goalkeeper Daniel Heuer Fernandes did this in the local derby against St. Pauli. You can blame the turf or the fact that the defender back passed directly in front of the goal. But still, watch this and laugh.

The series will continue from June 3rd to June 12th, and each article will contain 10 moments. Stay tuned for more of the greatest (and worst) moments of the 2023/24 world football season!
